Vahdam Daily Darjeeling Black Tea Review

I was in the mood to try a new black tea today, so I pulled out my collection of Vahdam Tea samples and landed on their Daily Darjeeling Second Flush Black Tea. I'm a big fan of black tea, so I had high hopes as I brewed the leaves!

The product description on Vahdam's website describes it as high-quality Darjeeling whole leaf tea selected from the famous Second Flush season.

My sample packet of Daily Darjeeling

I decided to use filtered water at a temperature just below boiling. My ratio was about 8 oz of water to a teaspoonful of dry tea leaves. The recommended brewing time is 3-5 minutes, and I brewed it for about 4.

A close up of the tea leaves. My phone camera didn't want to focus.

After brewing, the leaves had softened and expanded, although I did notice some tough stems and inconsistent coloring.

I immediately noticed the strong, almost sharp aroma of the brew. I wasn't expecting such a defined aroma and it pleasantly surprised me. The aroma was fruity and almost spicy.

The Daily Darjeeling tea leaves after brewing

As per the advice on the product page, I resisted my urge to add milk or cream. I also opted to pass up any sweeteners. I have to say, I was so glad I tried the tea without adding anything to it, because it was so good!

I accompanied my brew with a couple of light and airy meringue cookies.

The flavor notes I picked up on were a pronounced fruitiness, a soothing sweet sensation, and woodsy notes. I was also very impressed with the smoothness of this brew. It was so comforting to drink, with very low bitterness and almost no astringency worth mentioning. My kind of tea, for sure!

The freshly brewed tea after straining

This might be in my top 5 teas I've tried. Definitely a massive success of a brew! I totally recommend trying it if you like black tea. I'm already thinking about brewing a second cup...
